Full Circle
This project springs out from my urge to honor my grandfather, a photographer, and the sole reason behind how I got into visual media myself. As a documentary photographer, he spent many years capturing different parts of our town. Today, as I look around, I realize this little town has been going through significant infrastructural changes, which have resulted in the major transformation of the neighborhoods I grew up in. To document this shift, I recreated some of the images that my grandfather took back in the 60s by going to those exact spots and capturing images with a Standard Rolleiflex 1932, the same camera he used, thus coming full circle in my career as a photographer.
Shree Sachdev Children Park, one of the town's liveliest parks, now stays empty and abandoned.
Tokarkhada, a junction that had a single hardware shop and a bus depot, now has become one of the busiest neighborhoods in town.
Gayatri Mandir, one of the first temples built with mud and country tiles now is a famous pilgrimage.
Communal celebrations of cultures and festivals turned into political ignorance.
Despite the infrastructural shift, the independence memorial at Zanda Chowk stands untouched.
